As Sam Bankman-Fried attempted to contact former FTX employees after stepping down as CEO, his attorneys and prosecutors agreed to a review of his messaging rights. Sam Bankman-Fried retains the right to exchange by messaging
The prosecutors in charge of the FTX file will have partially succeeded in being heard. The latter had written to the competent judge at the end of January in order to prohibit Sam Bankman-Fried from communicating through encrypted messaging apps like Signal.
In support of their claim, prosecutors had revealed early exchange between former FTX CEO and Ryan Miller, the general counsel for FTX.US. It was Sam Bankman-Fried who then took the initiative to write to the lawyer to find out if it was possible “ to establish a constructive relationship ” and of ” use each other as resources “, which had then been considered a bribe attempt by the FTX defense.
So, according to a court document dated Monday, Feb. 6, prosecutors have reached a joint settlement with attorneys for Sam Bankman-Fried to prohibit it from using any type of encrypted or ephemeral messaging. The ex-CEO of FTX, however, retains the authorization to use more traditional messaging applications such as iMessage, FaceTime, Zoom, SMS, emails or Facebook Messenger.
He can also continue to use the instant messaging application WhatsApp, provided that software is installed on his mobile phone. in order to keep track of all its exchanges.
Furthermore, regarding possible communications with former employees of FTX or Alameda Research, Sam Bankman-Fried will only be able to write to them. only if a lawyer is present to attend the exchanges.

Former FTX CEO sabotages his own defense
According to a statement by Anthony Sabino, a law professor at St. John’s University, made during an interview with The Block media, Sam Bankman-Fried would only complicate his situation attempting to contact former FTX employees or speaking publicly:
“This guy is heading for a long prison term in a federal penitentiary because he just can’t stay home, shut up and let his lawyers do their job. »
He further adds that it is absolutely abnormal for an accused to contact a potential witness in an ongoing legal case, especially of this gravity. According to him, you don’t usually see that ” than in the movies », and that can only play against Sam Bankman-Fried.
In normal times, the best procedure to follow would be to let the lawyers do their job :
