Sam Bankman Fried, founder and former CEO of the FTX platform, has been arrested and taken into custody by Bahamian police, following a request from US authorities. According to the Attorney General of the Bahamas, it is very likely that the United States will seek his extradition.

Sam Bankman-Fried soon to be extradited to the United States?
The FTX saga continues. FTX Founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) Arrested and taken into custody by the Bahamian authorities on Monday evening. As Damian Williams, attorney for the Southern District of New York, points out, this arrest took place at the request of the US government.
The Attorney General of the Bahamas, Ryan Pinder, indicated that US authorities were likely to seek SBF’s extradition to the United States.
The charges against Sam Bankman-Fried include wire and securities fraud, conspiracy to commit wire and securities fraud, and money laundering.
In a statement, Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis said:
“The Bahamas and the United States have a common interest in holding accountable all individuals associated with FTX who may have betrayed the public trust and violated the law. »
The press release continues in these terms:
“While the United States pursues criminal charges against Sam Bankman-Fried individually, The Bahamas will pursue its own regulatory and criminal investigations into the FTX collapse, with the continued cooperation of its law enforcement partners and regulations in the United States and elsewhere. »
The arrest of the ex-FTX CEO comes the day before he was due to testify before the House Financial Services Committee. His attorneys, however, told CNBC that he would not testify.
