Monnaie de Paris hosts a collection of NFTs
Since June 30 and until October 22, Monnaie de Paris welcomes for the first time a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFT). It is quite a symbol for the institution founded in 864 by Charles II the Bald, which is notably responsible today for minting French coins as well as commemorative coins and medals.
This exhibition is carried out in collaboration with theCollection, an NFT platform working with world famous institutions such as the British Museum. Here, it is the work of the artist Robert Alice that is highlightedthrough in a collection called BABEL, in homage to the short story “The Library of Babel” by the writer Jorge Luis Borges.
This choice of name is not insignificant, because the library referred to in the book has characteristics reminiscent, in a way, of a blockchain :
“A space made up of hexagonal pieces, all identical and interconnected, presenting the same number of shelves on which are arranged the same number of books, endowed with the same number of pages, lines and characters, constituting all the possible variations, written and to come[…]»

Creations obtained by an assembly of technologies
Thus, visitors can discover 15 works printed on physical mediaaccompanied by QR code redirecting to their digital double in NFT format on the Collection website.
These creations combine several elements to arrive at a result, whether 3D models obtained by LiDAR technologies, ASCII characters or even architectural plans of the Monnaie de Paris:

If this exhibition is unprecedented for this thousand-year-old institution that is the Monnaie de Paris, this is not the first time that non-fungible tokens have become part of French cultural heritage. And for good reason, we learned last February that the Center Pompidou museum had acquired 18 NFTs, anchoring them a little more in traditional art.

I timidly discovered the world of blockchain at the end of 2018 during my quest for financial freedom. Initially invested moderately, it was only two years later that I took the gamble of betting everything on the movement that was taking shape then. I then dedicate 2021 to training myself better to acquire more knowledge and seriousness. As I often like to say: I still have a billion things to learn. And what I do know, I want to share with you.
