Ex-FTX lead attorney collaborates with the judiciary
Daniel Friedberg, the former lead attorney at FTX, who served as chief compliance officer, provided assistance to US authorities on this case.
If this information is made public today through a report by our colleagues at Reuters, the facts actually date back to November 22. Indeed, Daniel Friedberg would have held a meeting on this date at the office of Damian Williams, the attorney for the Southern District of New York, in the company of “two dozen investigators“.
Among those who attended this meeting were representatives of the Department of Justice, the FBI and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The purpose of this meeting was on what Sam Bankman-Fried did with his clients’ money, but very concretely, the details of these exchanges have not been revealed at this time. For the moment, Daniel Friedberg has not been charged in this case. On the other hand, the person concerned should be called next October as a witness, when the trial of Sam Bankman-Fried will begin.

A lawyer already involved in another scandal
Note that this is not the first time that Daniel Friedberg has been linked to a financial scandal. Indeed, he was one of the lawyers of Russ Hamilton, a poker player involved in a multi-million dollar cheating case on the Ultimate Bet platform between 2004 and 2008.
When FTX collapsed and his past caught up with him, Daniel Friedberg incidentally deleted his LinkedIn profile on November 11. However, it is impossible for us to say to what extent this could have played a role in the gigantic fraud that harmed the platform’s customers.
