Several political formations belonging to the Democrats have announced that they will return the donations received from Sam Bankman-Fried. At the same time, the prosecutor for the Southern District of New York also called on all the actors concerned to return “this dirty money”.

Democrats announce return of donations
Earlier this week, the White House had refused to comment on a possible return of donations from Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF). However, on Friday, several political groups belonging to the Democrats announced that they wanted to return these donations.
On the other hand, the amounts concerned relate only to one to two million dollars sources say, while Sam Bankman-Fried has poured $40 million to $73 million into American politics in recent years.
Different groups within each major party as well as different candidates are affected. It is therefore up to each of them to decide whether or not to return the funds. Thus, Daniel Wessel, a spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee, for example announced the return of $815,000 :
“Given the allegations regarding potential campaign finance violations by Bankman-Fried, we are setting aside funds in order to return the $815,000 in contributions since 2020.”

Several announcements point in the same direction
Two other political groups belonging to the Democrats have also informed of the return of the donations they had received.
On the one hand, there is the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, for whom $103,000 would be affectedas well as the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, up to $250,000. Note that the latter is responsible for electing its candidates to the House of Representatives, including the current president of the branch dedicated to financial services, Maxine Watters, who was to hear Sam Bankman-Fried last Tuesday, is precisely a Democrat.
Beyond these three formations, some political personalities also announced the return of the funding they had received. Earlier this week, New York’s Southern District Attorney Damian Williams called each actor who has benefited from SBF donations to return this money :
“All that dirty money was used in service of Bankman-Fried’s desire to buy bipartisan influence and impact the direction of public policy in Washington. […] To any person, entity, or political campaign that has received stolen customer money, we ask that you work with us to return that money to innocent victims. »
All these donations will have finally participated in building the facade of Sam Bankman-Fried, in the same way as his alleged charitable actions to buy his picture.
