On Wednesday, Axie Inifinity announced that its Origins blockchain game had successfully passed the exam. to be listed on the iOS App Store :

This is an interesting announcement, given Apple’s particular policy towards non-fungible tokens (NFTs), including 30% commissions on sales of thesealthough these could now be bypassed.
For their part, the Axie Infinity teams believe that Origins is the first game authorized by Apple on the App Store, involving NFTs external to iOS. On the other hand, some features will be inaccessible as such, involving downloading versions of the game other than the one offered natively on iOS:
“iOS players will be able to use their NFT axies in this release in meaningful ways. We believe this is the first time Apple has agreed to make an externally purchased NFT usable on the App Store. Additionally, only Moonshard crafting recipes will be available in the app. So, to use SLP crafting recipes, players will need to use desktop/Android APK versions. »

Availability limited to a few countries
Initially, Axie Infinity: Origins was launched last December on Google Play Store for Malaysia-based users. The iOS version is also geographically limited to the following countries :
Argentina; Colombia ; Peru ; Mexico ; Venezuela; Indonesia; Malaysia; Vietnam.
On the other hand, the game is accessible to anyone thanks to the desktop version, and even on smartphone thanks to an APK file available directly on the Sky Mavis websitethe publisher of this ecosystem.
While the project recalls that 70% of the members of its community arrived through friends or family members, the arrival on a major Store like that of Apple could give impetus to its adoption.
More broadly, it will be interesting to observe how the other Play-to-Earns also mingle with consumer platforms bringing together “Web2 applications”.
